About the President Michael
has over 14 years of experience in the healthcare payer, delivery,
and technology markets segments. He
graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a Bachelor of Science in
Health Management and Policy and a Masters Degree in Healthcare Administration.
Michael founded Kearsarge Healthcare Consulting, Inc. (KHC), an independent healthcare consulting firm based in New Hampshire. Before KHC, he worked with small multi-specialty, and academic medical practices in NH. He has served as interim Director of a New England based IT company and Interim Executive Director of a national EMR software company. Michael has worked as a business consultant, director, manager, analyst and administrator. His leadership skills have always placed him at the forefront of an organization either as project lead, administrator, director or business consultant. General Consulting: Michael has helped practices with pay for performance models for physician compensation. As a consultant Michael has offered claims auditing, HIPAA compliancy audits, data conversions, interim executive management, business development, business planning, and general practice management advice. His business leadership skills have paired him with physician owners and clinical leaders. He has worked closely with physician leaders of small community and large regional based medical group practices some as large as 500 physicians and many as small as one physician. He expanded practices by adding new service lines, additional physicians, and support staff. He has engaged physicians and other business leaders to better understand healthcare financial reporting as it pertains to management, leases, contracts, new business or new service lines, benchmarking, and mergers. He has provided due diligence for a small physician practice merger and a NH based insurance company. Michael has served as an expert witness for a civil suit regarding medical fraud case. Assessments: Michael has helped numerous practices with operational workflows, general business operations, and financial performance. His assessments range from work flow analysis, productivity analysis, and space evaluations. Michael has compared EHR applications and defined application gaps, and practice work flows to help a large (60 plus physicians) medical group determine functional gaps and work flow changes needed to adopt a new EHR. He has audited a 30 plus primary care practice for HIPAA compliancy as it pertains to their EHR and their human resources policies. From the front office to the back office billing, Michael has provided assessments that have changed the way practices manage their business. Michael has assessed a billing outsource division of a software EMR company which he helped to restructure and retool divisions with locations in India, New England and the Mid-west. Interim Executive Management: Michael has been retained for interim Executive Management roles in times of organizational change. He has managed and directed information technology companies and counseled senior management staff through change management. He has reorganized healthcare technology divisions to assess existing talent and recruited top industry talent to build formidable teams. Healthcare Information Technology: Michael has used his strong medical information technology background to focus on serving medical group practices and electronic medical record software companies. He has used healthcare information to develop physician profiling tools and reports utilizing case mix methodologies, episode treatment groupers, and industry leading healthcare metrics. He has helped practices with EHR selection, financing, implementation and data conversions. Michael served as a project lead and implemented IT solutions with medical group practices and large insurance carriers. He has also developed training and user guides for an EMR software company. Professional Service: Michael shares his knowledge through articles, speaking engagements, and advisement directly with his clients. One article was recently featured in the MGMA Connexion Magazine, "How to Pay for that EHR, Selecting Financing Vehicles for your Medical Group". Michael is a member of the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA), as well as the New Hampshire chapter of MGMA (NHMGMA), and NH/VT chapter of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA). |
